Who can apply?
You can apply for a
student visa inside Australia if you are:
- currently studying
in Australia on a student visa, or
- legally in
Australia on another visa and are
subject to assessment level 1
Note: if there are exceptional
reasons, you may be eligible to apply for
a student visa inside Australia if you are
assessed at a different level.

Visa Types (Subclasses) and Conditions
You must not
have a ‘no further stay’ condition (8534) on your

If your course has
started
If you are legally in
Australia, you may start your course once you have
lodged your application and while waiting for your
application to be decided, providing you do not have a
condition on your current visa restricting study.
However, if a decision is made that is not favorable on your student visa application, you will need to
withdraw from your course at that time and make
arrangements to leave Australia.
Bridging visas
If you apply to
change your visa, you may be issued with a bridging
visa while your application is considered.
