Samina
Pirzada
Actress/Director/Poducer
Samina Pirzada’s background in the Pakistani
entertainment industry needs no introduction. Those of us who
have had the pleasure of seeing her work, will agree that Samina
is a versatile actress. She has done numerous memorable roles in
both film and television. She has given brilliant performances
in many Lahore television plays. Her film, “Bazaar-e-Husun”
can definetly be listed amongst the fine films of Pakistani
cinema. Besides film and television, Samina has also left an
impact on theatre. Her performance in a stage play, “Raaz O
Niaz” with Talat Husein (the only other character in the
entire play) as the male lead left the audience in an awe. Her
directorial television debut, “Karb” had the critics and the
audience totally mesmerized. |

|
| Samina Peerzada does not hesitate to take risks.
She has taken on bold acting roles and experimented with even
bolder but yet simple themes in her production. She prefers to
portray adult themes and subjects in her productions but feels
that due to the lack of rating system in our films, it will be
inappropriate. Since in Pakistan, movie watching is more of a
family event, the film makers must cater the product towards all
members of the family. Rejecting criticism of obscenity against
her latest hit film "Inteha", Samina has vowed to
introduce 'bold initiatives in Pakistan film industry, asserting
that the experience can pay back well if credible work is
undertaken in such experience. She was talking to a local
newsmen after a News Conference addressed by State Minister
Tehmina Daultana in connection with a visit to Washington by
Pakistan women entrepreneurs delegation for exploring business
opportunities abroad. Samina Pirzada said all the criticism
against her hit release "Inteha" was quite baseless
and irrational. "What we have presented on the screen is a
true picture of our society and those unleashing criticism are
perhaps, afraid of watching their real faces as "Inteha"
is serving as mirror to them", she said. |
 |
| Samina went on to say that she had been herself
watching "Inteha" in various cinema houses to read
directly viewers' opinion. "I have repeated this exercise
in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Rawalpindi/Islamabad
to assess the emotional variation of the viewers and found it
very encouraging for film industry", she said. On her trip
to the US, Samina explained that it would provide her an
opportunity to seek collaboration from advanced film making
companies in technical side of the Lollywood industry.
"Actually, some German entertainment companies are also
part of the exhibition we are going to visit and I would seek
their collaboration for technical aspects", she said. |
