Ali
Haider

He is one of the youngest and most successful
soloist to hit the Pakistani pop scene with all the right stuff thrown
in. He has the winning combination of good looks and quality music that
has won him millions of fans all over the world in the last 10 years,
since he has been churning out mega-hit albums. Educated to the core, an
engineer with a degree from NED, Ali Hailer never bothered to try his
luck fixing loose wiring, banging away at a computer, revising formulae
or coming up with new inventions. Instead he put his vocal chords to
practice and exercise, learnt that he could make good money, quickly,
and instead of measuring watts, went the other way.

Education helped a lot in earning him international
acclaim. One after the other his pop albums have sold well not
only in the local market but also in the international music
scene.
Not many soloists can claim fame in such a short
time. Qarar got the Best Selling Award for 1991 and cashing
in on its success, Sandesa followed, winning the 1993 Best
selling Award for EMI, and all this without any hype. Since then
Ali Haider has produced several albums and innumerable singles,
which have occupied the upper slots of the Charts whenever, and
wherever they are released. His formula for success is simple and
so in the recipe for music. He writes the catchy tunes. And the
words come to life when he attaches music to them. Coming up with
humble tunes is another talent Ali Haider excels in. "I write
my own songs; the melody lines are mine, so are the lyrics. Only
the orchestra is hired which I take with me everywhere."

|
Channeling his creative streak in an organized
manner, Ali starts with a concept and writes the first line.
"It has to be catchy, that's very important. I
am very particular about the theme of a song. After that, I work
on the melody line, I take it to the musicians and we work
together to compose music for it. Then they make a dummy track,
take it to the studio, find out the short comings and give it a
final shape, it's a lot of backbreaking work."
|
 |
| Of his initial releases Qarar was what took
every one by storm although before that, Chahat had been
released, but hadn't made too much of a furore on the music scene.
Qarar became so popular that when Sandesa was released,
people were still listening to Qarar, from the selling
point of view, Sandesa sold more copies and cashed in on
Qarar's popularity. In other words one can say that Qarar was
launched in a big way but Sandesa got popular through it.

 |
| Basically a loner, Ali enjoys being in his own
company, he also travels a lot when it gets all too stifling for
him. Listening to classical and folk music is also a passion for
him and that reflects with its true colors in his poetry and
sound. But nothing for him is over-night. He is a workaholic to
the boot. If he is not writing music, he is busy rehearsing his
stage act to a T, and if not rehearsing, he ia always busy touring
and devising new marketing strategies for his upcoming projects.

Matured by seven multi-platinum albums & in ten
years Ali Hailer is a working class pop exponent playing as many
as 200 dates a year around the world. And talking of tours he has
almost conquered half the globe, Ali Haider has played mega-hit
concerts in Pakistan, India, West Bengal, England, Scotland,
Dubai, Abudabi, Sharjah, USA, Canada and Australia on umpteenth
times and hence proved his longevity in the business.

Ali Hailer also has a right conglomerate of
country's top musicians in an ensemble called Aakash - Two
years ago Aakash merged with a potent debut album "Chand
sa Mukhda" and took the nation by a storm.
In Aakash his fiery unison with Ali Tim
(Bassist/Lyricist/Composer), Ziyyad Gulzar
(Guitarist/Sequencer/Composer), Alan Smith (drummer), Faizi
(Keyboard), as a band proved best hands at constructing
listener-friendly pop. |
